Sydney is home to some of the sharpest trainers and coaches in the world. Hands down.
From the Blue Mountains to the sea, we've packed in more than five million people, and 36% of city-dwellers lift. Nearly nine in ten Sydneysiders live within 3km of an Anytime Fitness alone.
Coaches here train millionaire mums, teenage Olympic hopefuls, burnt-out execs and broken tradies all before lunch.
Experience aside, we're also an educated bunch. Sports science in this country is second to none. Deakin topped ShanghaiRanking's 2025 sport science rankings, and seven Australian universities made the top 20, including the University of Sydney. Athletes from the NSW Institute of Sport have won more than 100 Olympic medals from Sydney Olympic Park, and many strength coaches from our nine NRL clubs, the Swans, Giants and Waratahs end up in private gyms.
Sydney's cost of living is intimidating. Demographia ranks its housing the second least affordable of 94 international markets, behind Hong Kong, and the NSW Premier has called it the most-tolled city on earth. Can confirm.
With staggering gym rent breathing down your neck and thousands of other bronzed trainers working the same suburbs, you deliver, or your business is dead in the water.
These are the coaches and trainers I want to speak to.
We'll talk about training, lifestyle, and the tactical small-business systems they use to win. Most episodes will be interviews with a guest, with the occasional solo episode when there's something I want to dig into myself.
I have a few excellent local guests lined up, and I'm about to start recording. I'm putting the word out. Here's who I'm after.

The Coaches I Want to Talk To
The ones who've been at it a long time. Ten, twenty years on the floor. They've taken their lumps, been there, done that, and are still at it.
Specialists. Powerlifting, Olympic lifting, rehab and return-to-sport, older adults, pre- and postnatal, athletes. I want to know how you do it, and how it should be done.
Gym and studio owners. You've stepped into the dogfight of marketing, hiring, leases, overheads, and winter. Share your war stories.
Newer coaches who are building it right. I'm as interested in how you got your first ten clients as I am in someone's twenty-year career. What's new?
Mercenaries. You're principles-based, results-driven, and client-centred. You think like a scientist, act like a coach, and you're not chained to any brand, system, or idea.
The sceptics. If you've got well-reasoned views that bash against tradition, I'd like to hear them. I want thinkers who do: bring your sources and systems.
Based in Sydney. Local trainers, coaches, and support staff only at this time. Nutritionists, physios, etc. are welcome.
Hit me up here:
Don't Bother If…
Your entire system revolves around revering or stigmatising body parts or food groups. ***Taps the sign.
No Keto-Karens, no Booty-by-Bens or Kneecap nerds.
Your personality is all fitness, all the time. You're "training for life", but all you do is train. Decide and juggle like the rest of us.
Your marketing shtick is peddling outrage, absolutes, and nitpicking teardowns on social media. You're boring.
I don't care how many followers you have; I want to know what you believe.
Who do you help, how do you help, and why do you help?
What I'll Ask
A bunch of things, and sometimes we'll veer off if it works. Every guest gets some version of these:
What's one thing you believed early in your career that you've since changed your mind on?
What does a good client look like, and how did you find them?
What's your biggest business mistake, and what did it cost you?
What's overrated in this industry, and what's underrated?
What would you tell a coach in their first year?
What's in it for you?
You get a proper conversation about your craft and an episode you can share with your own clients and network. It's your chance to share your ideas and approach to helping your community. You get to be in front of people who know nothing about you, and who are actively looking for someone like you to help them. Being a good guest isn't that hard, and I wrote a guide about it here if you want a looksy.
If you're having a bout of the ol' impostor syndrome and don't think you'd be a worthwhile guest, don't worry. We all experience it at one point or another. Here's a quote I heard somewhere that sums it up nicely.
I don't have advice to give. Only experience to share.
Consider viewing things from a fresh angle. You have a unique story, even if you haven't noticed it yet, and there's someone out there who will connect with it. Instead of thinking of it as teaching, think of it as sharing your experiences and the lessons you've picked up along the way.
How to Get on the Show
Two ways:
Apply yourself: Apply to be a guest. It takes a few minutes.
Nominate someone: Hit reply and tell me who they are, what they're great at, and why I should talk to them. Talk them up because we won't do it ourselves.
I can't promise everyone a spot. But I read every reply.
What's Next
The first episodes are coming soon, and I'll let you know the moment they're live. In the meantime, if you know a coach who'd be a good fit, forward this to them.
Thanks for reading.
